Little Creek Farm is one of the last horse farms inside the Perimeter highway. Until it was purchased by DeKalb County (2005), the farm had been in the same family since before the Civil War. Little Creek Farm became a dairy farm in the 1920s and a horse farm in 1958. Its fields once stretched along Lawrenceville Highway to where Home Depot now stands and included all of the land in the Orion neighborhood.
During the Battle of Atlanta, General Stoneman used the farm as a resting area for exhausted cavalry horses. Thousands of Union soldiers camped along the banks of South Peachtree Creek, which runs through the farm. The bridge in the south pasture marks the original path of Lawrenceville Highway, down which the troops marched on their way in to Atlanta. For more information log on to:
